Synopsis

A short poetry film exploring a composer's ruminations on life. The Composer's Notes blends spoken word, abstract sound, and glimpses of the world through a black and white lens, to conjure a mysterious portrait of a racing mind. Filmed on location in Melbourne, Australia, with some found footage of ovine terrestrials.

Text

Everything creaks in this world
My children rode on my shoulders
Before I was born
Their new finger whorls
In the furrows of my brow
And I was born with this feeling
Collapsed shoulders passed by bone
Lungs flowered like palms at a stream
Waiting for the air to come
In this world
Everything creaks
Grass grinds against the breeze
Springs of clothes pegs clutch at threads
Shedding rust in flecks
The dance of it, the dance
The coarse minuet
The bone keys and old grain
Pass the tune in pieces
The hands splay like water
Pushed into the path of reeds
And I was born with this feeling
The quavers' round shoulders
Silent as the page before fingers
Lest you listen
For everything creaks.
